Optometry under the Faculty of Sciences is offered in some of the Universities, polytechnics and colleges in Nigeria. In this article below is the procedure, guide and requirements needed for admission by ‘0’ Level  and Direct students in Nigeria schools.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

In UTME, note that English Language is mandatory for all courses. The other three subjects required to study Optometry under the Faculty of Sciences in the institutions listed above are:

Physics, Chemistry and Biology

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Optometry as a UTME candidate, you require: Five SSCE credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Requirements for Direct Entry Candidates

To apply for Optometry as a Direct Entry candidate, you require: (i) At least two ‘A’ level passes (G.C.E or H.S.C) in Chemistry and any one of Biology, Zoology or Physics.

(ii) Distinction level pass in National Diploma (ND) from a recognised Polytechnic or College of Technology in Science Laboratory Technology (SLT).

(v) Distinction level pass in Higher National Diploma (HND) from a recognised Polytechnic or College of Technology in Polymer Chemistry and Science Laboratory Technology (SLT)

(v) Distinction level pass in Nigeria Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognised College of Education in Chemistry. In addition candidates should have at least an overall Credit level pass

(i) Candidates for Direct Entry should also satisfy UTME requirements
